10 open questions about 5G

1. 5G UE ?

• In 5G UE future market are Intel , Qualcomm ,  Samsung.
• Still 5G UE prototype has not been shown by any of future vendors.

2. Bandwith of 5G  cell ?

• In LTE according to 3GPP is 1.4MHz , 3MHz , 5MHz , 10MHz , 15MHz , 20MHz .
• For 5G there is lack of specification yet,
• Bandwith of 5G cell will be at least 10-30 times bigger.

3. Power  of 5G transmitters ?

• It depends of distance which should transmitter / receiver handles.

4. Expected 5G distance  ?

• Samsung made demonstration where was distance around 4.35km in outdoor enviroment  using a 28GHz antennas.

• Anyway 5G network is planned for ultra-high dense areas and expected distances can be rather low then 4km.

5. 5G Frequency ?

• Higher frequency in comparison to LTE. Up to 73GHz.

6. 5G Interaction  with legacy mobile networks ? 

• Still it's under discussion and analysis.

7. 5G antennas ?

• Because of MIMO 8x8 and higher antena is planned from scratch.

8. Core architecture of 5G ?

• cloud solution and virtualization and SDN ( software defined networks ).

9. Purpose of 5G ?

• hi data throughput
• new application of 5G network ( sensors , IoT )
• hi data peak rate
• immediate adaptation for enviroment conditions
• total new 5G devices ( more functionalities )

10. When first deployment ?

• Verizon

Verizon plans firstly deploy mobile hotspot and fixed wireless for start of the  5G mobile network in the United States  in 2017.

• AT&T

Approach of AT&T is to execute rapid 5G deployment shortly after 3GPP first release of the official specifications . 5G Specification should contains  basic rules and standards of 5G.

• Korea 

Winter Olympic will start  9th of February 2018 . Everyone is expecting 5G mobile network in Korea during Olympic.
